Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder David Lyborn Mathebula has been appointed as head coach of Amakhosi’s Under-19 youth team as well as assistant coach to the Reserve side.

A gifted midfielder, Mathebula, known affectionately as ‘Hosi’, represented Chiefs with distinction during his playing career, amassing 11 goals in his 109 appearances between 2004/05 and 2010/11, and won seven trophies with The Phefeni Glamour Boys.

“In keeping with the Club’s strategy of bringing in individuals who understand our philosophy, we are very excited to welcome coach David Mathebula back to the Village. We believe he will add a lot of value to our youth structures,” says Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr.

Mathebula is a former team-mate of Motaung Jr, and also played alongside head coach Arthur Zwane and senior team manager Gerald Sibeko and under-15 coach Jimmy Jambo. He has coached TTM and Marumo Gallants junior teams in recent times.

“We welcome coach David Mathebula to the Amakhosi youth development structure. We look forward to his contribution and sharing of knowledge and experience with the young players we have in our development,” adds Head of Technical and Youth Development Molefi Ntseki.

Mathebula will work with other Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy coaches including Jambo and Tshidiso Letsholonyane and will serve as coach Vela Khumalo’s assistant in the Reserve side that plays in the DStv Diski Challenge.
