Mafikeng Stadium opened its gates to the Amakhosi faithful in May of this year when
Kaizer Chiefs hosted its arch rivals, Orlando Pirates in the 12th “Soweto Derby” since
the inception of the PSL in 1996.
On Saturday, 15 November 2008 the Derby returns to the North West. The two
Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, will battle it out on the field of play
once again at the Mafikeng Stadium. The stage is set for another thrilling encounter
with both teams in the hunt for 3 valuable points in the League.
As we draw closer to the brief holiday interval of the fast-paced Premiership race,
soccer loving fans could not have asked for a better encounter than the Derby.
It is
certain that fireworks are set to fly at the Mafikeng Stadium in Mmabatho this
weekend. Cunning tactics, focus, zeal, and determination are among the ingredients
that characterize the “on-the-field-fever” of South Africa’s number one Derby.
A curtain raiser match between Kaizer Chiefs Female Celebrity Team and the North
West SAB Team will precede the highly anticipated Derby. Kick off for the Curtain
Raiser will be at 13h00. MC Meshack Mavuso, DJ Smalls, DJ MK, Kelly Khumalo,
Rhythmic Elements (Two by Two fame), and dozens of dancers will increase the
hype of the Derby when showcasing their talents in providing outstanding
entertainment.
Walala! Wasala! Loosely translated to “you snooze you lose”. The tickets are
selling at R20.00 for adults and R10.00 for children at Computicket and Shoprite
Checkers outlets. Sales reports show that tickets are selling like hot cakes, and
chances are if you don’t buy your tickets today, they will be SOLD OUT!

The day will end with an Official Derby After Party at the Mmabatho Convention
Centre featuring more than a dozen entertainers, including Rhythmic Elements,
Morafe, Chomee, DJ Cleo, Bleksem, KB (of Channel O), DJ Zinhle and many more.
This party will be the cherry on top of the cake as the Amakhosi Family celebrates
yet another Derby with its biggest rivals. Doors open at 19h30, and the General
Admission Fee is R100.
