The Kaizer Chiefs U18 team was in action last weekend, beating Balfour Alexander 4-2 in penalties after the game ended 2-2.
The U18 team, under the tutelage of Johannes ‘Ryder’ Mofokeng, is registered under the SAFA Soweto League, running from April to November.
“Things have been going well and the boys are excited to be playing in a competitive league. We played a 2 all draw against Balfour this past weekend but in the league the game goes to penalties and we won 4-2. (The team that wins penalties get 2 points and the team that loses penalties gets 1 point).
“We have played seven games thus far, winning four games while we have drawn two games. We have an exciting team, with the likes of striker Yusuf Buting (16) from Potchefstroom, who has scored eight goals, skilful midfielder Buran Allie (17) from Polokwane and goalkeeper Mpho Mathekga (16), who comes from Diepkloof in Soweto.
“We are also delighted by the plans from the Club to revive development structures but we will have to wait for the Chairman to make announcements on some of the development around the Academy.”
The U18 team were due to play rivals Orlando Pirates this coming weekend but the game has been postponed following a request from Orlando Pirates, who will be participating in another tournament.
Meanwhile, the U19 team under Ntsie Maphike, registered under Eldorado Park Football Association, were also in action over the weekend, beating Newcastle 3-1.
