The second biggest game in the DStv Premiership calendar will take place this evening as Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns lock horns at FNB stadium with three valuable points on the line. The game is important as it has the potential of seeing the visitors declared champions if they win this evening. However, Amakhosi will not lie down easily because they are equally desperate for a win to boost their chances of finishing in a respectable position come 25 May, 2024, when this season’s campaign wraps up.
Chiefs will also be out in full force to avenge their first round loss, which happened in very controversial circumstances when the two teams met at Lucas Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville.
Coach Cavin Johnson is forced to make at least three changes from the team that walloped SuperSport United 2-1 in Polokwane on Saturday. These forced changes are all in the backline, as Edmilson Dove is suspended after collecting four yellow cards. He will be replaced by Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who returns after many months of an injury lay-off. The other changes are in the left and right wing-back positions, where S’fiso Hlanti and Dillan Solomons, who are both out with flu, make way for Reeve Frosler and Zitha Kwinika.
The coach also makes to two tactical changes in the middle of the park, with Yusuf Maart coming in for Sibongiseni Mthethwa, and last weekend’s scorer of the winning goal, Mduduzi Shabalala, will be replaced by Edson Castillo.
The Glamour Boys will play their regular 4-3-3 formation.
Bruce Bvuma is the goalie.
Frosler slots in at left-back. Given Msimango will be joined by Botswana international, Ditlhokwe at centre-back, while Zitha Kwinika will defend the right side.
In midfield, Chiefs will have Maart supported by Edson Castillo and Siyethemba Sithebe just ahead of him.
Attacking from the flanks are Pule Mmodi on the left, and Christian Saile, who scored a stunner against Matsatsantsa on Saturday, on the right.
Ashley Du Preez leads Amakhosi’s attack.
Msimango captains the team.
Abongile Tom is the match referee. His two assistant referees are Cledwin Baloyi and Bongani Matete. The fourth official is Kenny Mamegwa.
All eyes will be on this DStv Premiership clash between The Phefeni Glamour Boys and The Brazillians starting 19:30 at FNB Stadium in Nasrec. The match is live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on X (Twitter) @KaizerChiefs.
