“At home I didn’t get ice cream if I missed church,” reveals new signee Ryan ‘Moonaldo’ Moon. “My parents always reminded us that doors will open if we honour God.”

The lanky striker arrived from Maritzburg United as one of Kaizer Chiefs’ new signees for the 2016/17 PSL season.

The 19-year-old Moon has already experienced the Soweto Derby from close-up, sitting on the bench for the Carling Black Label Champions Cup game. Moon picked up his first winners medal in the professional ranks after Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 2-0.

“I watched TV that morning and they played the previous Carling Black Label Cup matches. Right there, I felt the excitement building up,” remarks Moon. “From driving in the bus to the stadium and going through the pitch inspection was a breath-taking experience. After the match I told my father, who had called to congratulate me, that the experience was beyond measure.”

Moon is described as a funny, crazy and nice person. He made his first appearance in the field of play in the Gold & Black, wearing jersey number 30, against First Division rookies Magesi FC in the FAME Cup. “It was heart-warming to hear the crowd cheering my name when the coach called me to be ready to take the field,” reflects Moon.

The striker came on as a second half substitute replacing Michelle Katsvairo. Moon also came on against Baroka FC in the final, which Chiefs lost 3-0 on penalties.

“My first touch was perfect,” recalls Moon about his Amakhosi debut against Magesi. “I received a pass from Siyanda (Xulu). I turned nicely and created a scoring opportunity for us. After that move, I settled well and started to feel the heavy heaviness of the Gold & Black, dropping off my shoulder.”

The Pietermaritzburg-born Moon plays golf and monopoly in his spare time. “I want to score goals for Chiefs,” concludes the striker. “I am dedicated to my career and believe I will record my name in the history books of the club.”
