Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Stanton 'Stiga' Fredericks finally realised his dream of competing on the European stage when he signed a three-year deal with FC Moscow in Russia after attending trials last week.

Fredericks returned from the Russian capital on Monday and is already packing his bags, as he leaves South Africa on Wednesday, to begin a new chapter in his football career.

"I'm really excited at the prospect of playing in Russia, and for FC Moscow, but at the same time I'm nervous, I actually can't describe what I'm going through," an elated Fredericks said.

"I've been wanting this opportunity (to play in Europe) all my life and finally it's here, it could not have come at a better time as I'm getting old," the 27-year-old Fredericks said jokingly.

Stiga, as Fredericks is popularly known in South Africa, made his debut at the age of 19, in 1996, for Wits University before securing a lucrative deal with the Mighty Amakhosi three years ago.

"It seems so long ago that I made my debut for Wits, and I remember making my debut for Chiefs like it was yesterday. I've really enjoyed my time here but now I have to focus on making my mark in Russia."

Fredericks signed his contract with FC Moscow on Tuesday morning.

"Yes I signed a contract with them today(Tuesday). There was another club interested but Moscow were more determined to get my signature and I'm confident that I've made the right choice.

The peroxide-blonde Fredericks, who made the black and yellow jersey number 10 famous during his time, will be leaving for the Soviet capital on Wednesday.
