While everyone was celebrating Valentine’ Day on Saturday, 14 February, Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Branches in the Eastern Cape got together to establish regional and provincial structures. The workshop was attended by Branch representatives from East London, Mthatha, Mdantsane, Motherwell, Ezinyoka, Uitenhage and Idutywa. An interim structure was selected to help facilitate the elections in March.
“I admire the proactive spirit that the Eastern Cape branches have adopted to get their structures in order,” Amakhosi’s Supporters Relationship Manager Tracy Williams reacts. “This is teamwork of the highest order. I look forward to see all provinces follow their example.”
Mobilising supporters to attend games is one of the key roles for Supporters Branches. It’s critically important that when Kaizer Chiefs play at home or have other key games that our supporters attend in huge numbers, such as last weekend’s CAF Champions League game against Botswana’s Township Rollers. Sadly enough, only about 30 branches came to this crucial Champions League clash on Amakhosi’s African journey and the general attendance was poor.
On a positive note, however, among the flags proudly displayed on Saturday night was the one from East London. They are planning to send supporters to as many games as possible. “That’s exciting news,” concludes Williams.
