“It will be a must to come back to the Village after seeing this,” Eastern Cape Girls U15 coach Archie Dyeli enthuses when visiting Kaizer Chiefs’ headquarters in Naturena. “These facilities tell a huge story and it makes me want to work hard to become a top coach.”
The girls squad is at present in Johannesburg to play in the Nelson Mandela Youth Challenge organised by Safa through the Fifa 2010 Legacy Fund.
“This is a squad of the Eastern Cape Girls Under-15s,” explains Dyeli. “The squad was assembled in October. They were selected from a regional tournament.”
“We opted to visit Kaizer Chiefs with the intention to motivate the girls. We want to instil the inspiration of Chiefs’ culture of winning in this squad. Most of the girls in the squad support Amakhosi.”
The Under-15 squad had an opportunity to tour the Village, which included a walk through the Time Capsule to learn about Chiefs’ rich history.
“I was selected to captain the team because of my discipline,” explains central midfielder Nolitha Msila. “I admire Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane. Yeye is definitely my favourite player.”
About the experience of visiting the Village, Msila adds, “I feel great. I've seen the Village with my own eyes today. This has been magnificent.”
“I feel excited and have a dream to be champion one day,” concludes Msila with supreme confidence. “I would like to one day represent South Africa at the world stage. This is like a dream come true for our squad. A big thank you to Kaizer Chiefs for hosting us.”
