“The boys should take credit for a job well done,” said the Turk with a smile after the game.
“I think we were more effective from the organisational point of view as compared to our opponents on Sunday afternoon. Make no mistake Sundowns remains a great side. They had two wonderful opportunities in the first half as we started a bit slow. However we had done our homework on them and they never surprised us,”
“I also think mentally and physically we were way ahead of them. In overall it was a good game for the supporters who filled the stadium. I am happy that the team is back to winning ways,” he said.
The Turk downplayed suggestions that the victory means that the team has now ‘turned the corner’ and will be challenging other league front-runners, Ajax Cape Town, Supersport United and Golden Arrows.
“Both Ajax Cape Town and Supersport won over the weekend which means there is a long way for us to go. We have a tricky game this weekend against Thanda Royal Zulu. I am hoping that we pay the same level of attention to this game as we did on Sunday against Mamelodi Sundowns. I think at times we struggle against ‘so called’ smaller teams. Ultimately Kaizer Chiefs has to get the 3 points – that is the most important objective” he concluded.
