“Festive period is upon us and I wish to take this opportunity to wish everyone a joyous time,” says Motaung. “We all know that this year is not an ordinary one due to the Covid-19 pandemic which has claimed the lives of many people and got many others in hospital. It is therefore a bittersweet moment to rejoice amidst the challenges that we are confronted with. It is important to emphasise the message of precaution and safety during this period. I wish the affected a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with the families that have lost their loved ones.”
The Chairman passed his message in the middle of the pandemic which is in the second wave measuring a staggering over 10 000 of new cases daily.
“Road fatalities are always a cause for concern during the festive season due to high volumes of traffic on the road,” adds Motaung. “I urge everyone to drive safely and cooperate with the other road users during this period. Travel safely and arrive alive at your destinations.
“This is a period of enjoying time with the family and friends. It is important through the sharing of love that everyone takes heed and follow the necessary safety precautions and regulations to reduce the spread and contracting the virus. We must apply the rule of ‘Safety first and enjoyment after’ as an approach. We must apply the basics by wearing the mask, maintain the social distance and wash hands regularly. All these regulations must be a way of life until the country returns to normality.”
2020 marked the 50th Anniversary in the history of Kaizer Chiefs, “This year turned bittersweet for us,” comments Motaung. “We are grateful to have achieved the 50th milestone. I wish to pay tribute to the past and present people who played a role in the successful establishment and history of the club. We would have wished to have celebrated this milestone in style by winning some silverware. Luck was not on our side considering that we lost the league in the last 30 minutes of the 2019/20 season after leading the league for the better part of the season.”
“The 2020/21 football season started with the changes by introducing the new coaching team of coach Gavin Hunt assisted by Dillon Shepard and Arthur Zwane. We have not made changes to the playing personnel at the start of the season due reasons we all know. However, we have roped in the new technical team which is working hard now to turnaround the fortunes of the team to return to winning trophies. We started the season slow but we are working hard to turn the corner and returning to winning ways. We have also made our return to continental football after qualifying for the CAF Champions League. We must exercise patience and let the coaches work on the team. We will soon bring back the smiles on our supporter’s faces.”
“In closing I’d like take this opportunity on behalf of the Kaizer Chiefs board of directors, management, staff and the team to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy 2021. Remember to stay safe during the celebrations.”
God bless you all.
