Other front-runners in the league race also dropped points Pirates and Sundowns both drew which was good news and a host of other results went favourably for us except our own result.
I thought that we played well against Silver Stars up to the point where we went 3-2 down as we were always going to find it tough with ten men against a team who have fast players. We gave away needless goals and Fabian McCarthy’s expulsion from the game was even more futile, as an experienced player already on a yellow card Fabian has the knowledge and history to allow the player to run.
Anyhow we once again self destructed at the wrong time and it cost us dearly, even with ten men I thought we played with a lot of character and showed the desire to win.
We did not throw in the towel but continued playing exciting football and there were contrasting ironies in our game. On a night when our strikers came good the most solid part of Chiefs game over the past three seasons the defence seemed to lose self-control at the wrong time so we think of what could have been.
We have had to pick up the pieces from the Silver Stars nightmare and look ahead to this weekends’ game against Super Sport United, who we are expecting will come out with guns blazing.
Jabu Pule will particularly need no motivation for this encounter and we are aware of the threat that he poses, with his trickery and delicate ball skills Jabu will need special attention. With the Coca Cola Cup Final around the corner, I think Super Sport’s eyes will be on Cosmos and hopefully we will be able to take advantage of Super Sport’s absent minds and get much needed points in order to keep up the pressure on Pirates.
David Obua will miss the Super Sport game as he sees out his two match suspension Fabian McCarthy begins his two match ban against Super Sport and hopefully David will be available for the Ajax Cape Town game on the 4th of December. Fabian McCarthy will watch us take on Super Sport and Ajax from the sidelines but should be available for the Free State Stars game on the 7th December.
Victory against Super Sport, Ajax and Free State Stars is needed before we face Pirates on the tenth should we gain the maximum from these games - we will be only a few points adrift of them when we meet on the 10th of December.
Furthermore I would like to send my condolences to Ntokozo Sikhakhane and his family on the tragic passing away of Ntokozo’s father Bessie Blose. The funeral was held this past weekend at the families’ home in Durban.
Team manager Bobby Motaung and a group of players did attend the funeral. Ntokozo will be back in training next Monday as he it was felt his family needed him at this time and he is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
On a parting note Serge Djiehoua has returned from Ivory Coast - it is nice to have him back. To have thirty two players on the training ground fit and raring to go – I, at this stage, could not be a happier man.
Till next time Love and Peace to All
