Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral has credited the loss against Maritzburg United to missed chances in both halves. This was the third loss for Amakhosi in a row, since losing the second leg MTN tie against Moroka Swallows in Rustenburg.

A lot was said about the refereeing on the day and the tactics that were employed by the opponents but Muhsin put that aside pointing to the number of chances the team created but could convert as the main reason.

“The refereeing was not that bad, we missed chances, period,” said the visibly disappointed Ertugral after the game.

“We created three clear chances in the first half but could not convert them. During the second stanza with the score 2-2, we should have wrapped the game up and there was again a penalty that we did not convert.

“I cannot point fingers to the referees as the reason on why we lost the game. Yes, I do believe that two of Maritzburg United players should have been sent off by the referee but if we scored things could have been different,” he noted.

Ertugral who celebrated his birthday on Monday dismissed suggestions that, “the team was already thinking about the final” before the crucial Maritzburg United league encounter.

“We had prepared the whole week to face Maritzburg. We knew how important this game was to us. We, for instance, played Reneilwe Letsholonyane who was sitting on two yellow cards before the game. We would have decided not to risk him if we had our minds on the final,” he said.

The Turkish born coach admitted that the loss does not auger well with the preparations for the MTN 8 final to be played in Durban this weekend.

“It is going to be difficult. We will need to regroup,” he said.
