Santos Vs Kaizer Chiefs

Athlone Stadium, Cape Town

9th December 2007

Kick Off: 17h30

ABSA Premier League

Playing Conditions: Strong south westerly wind, temperature at kick off 26° C

Having being in a relaxed mood since his arrival in Cape Town on Saturday afternoon, Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral changed his outlook as he talked his team through their game plan for Sunday afternoon's game against Santos, during his lunch time pre match talk.

Ertugral in his own words has said that he will not tolerate his team dropping any more points as he aims for a top five spot by the end of the year. The Amakhosi headman has spoken in the strongest possible way to his team. It is not his words but rather his actions that will have the largest impact, as he has made five changes to his starting eleven from the one that drew with Amazulu on Wednesday evening in Durban. Four of the five changes are tactical while one is forced upon him, as left back Onismor Bhasera is suspended for the game.

Midfield juggle

Most of the Chiefs coach's changes to his team have come in the middle of the park where only one of the four players who started on Wednesday against Amazul,u in the form of Siphiwe Tshabalala keeps his place in the starting group. While David Mathebula, Gerald Sibeko and Thuso Phala have been sent to the substitute’s bench, in their place comes Tinashe Nengomasha who missed the AmaZulu game through suspension. Arthur Zwane replaces Mathebula on the right side of midfield and David Obua has come in for Thuso Phala, Obua will be expected to play in the left channel along side Siphiwe Tshabalala and has been used in recent times by Ertugral as an impact player. As he has come on as a substitute and changed the course of the game, he will be expected to have the same kind of effect from kick off on Sunday.

The rest

Itumeleng Khune who was struggling with a number of niggles ahead of the AmaZulu game is back in goal. T Telkom Cup player of the tournament gets the nod ahead of Emille Baron, who himself put up a good showing on Wednesday. Such is the cut throat competition for the number one spot at Chiefs at the moment that neither Khune or Baron are sure of a place in the starting eleven.

Ditheko Mototo slots in at left back for Onismor Bhasera and on the bench Fabian McCarthy is replaced by Mandla Masango, Jimmy Tau, Cyril Nzama and Derrick Spencer retain their places at the back, while Kaizer Motaung Junior who found his first league goal of the season in the draw with Amazulu will again partner Mabhudi Khenyeza in attack.
