“The match against Chippa United will be difficult,” says Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse ahead of this afternoon’s encounter at Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (kick-off at 15:00). “They are fighting against relegation and need a result.”
Amakhosi lost 2-1 at home to Bidvest Wits on Wednesday evening. “That was a disappointing result,” admits Pieterse. “Of course, we wanted to do well. But sometimes it’s not easy to stay motivated after already having won the league title. Wits wanted it more than us.”
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been in splendid form since minding Chiefs’ goalposts for the last four league games against Tuks, Polokwane City, Mamelodi Sundowns and Wits. He came on during the AmaZulu encounter after Itumeleng Khune received a red-card.
Amakhosi won three of those four Absa Premiership matches with the Johannesburg-born goalkeeper between the posts, conceding three goals.
After the Chippa United game, Chiefs will receive the Absa Premiership trophy.
Reports are that the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is sold out with Amakhosi supporters swamping the city of Port Elizabeth.
“We are definitely looking for the three points,” Pieterse stresses. “We want to finish the season on a positive note for the Club, for our sponsors and, above all, for our loyal supporters. Every game this season has been a home game thanks to our fans. They have been magnificent.”
