Eyes on the final for Sweswe

Thomas Sweswe is aiming to maintain his record of having won a Cup title in each season that he has been with the Amakhosi since joining the club at the beginning of the 2009 – 2010 season, and win a third domestic cup final when Chiefs face Orlando Pirates in the final of the MTN8 on Saturday evening at the FNB Stadium.

“We have set ourselves a goal of winning the MTN8” quipped Sweswe to kaizerchiefs.com before going on to further add, “our attention and focus is totally on this game and we started the hard work on Monday and are prepared to work in the build up to game, staying focused will be key and hopefully we will be successful on Saturday.”

The tough tackling central defender is aware that Pirates will be no pushovers and that the Amakhosi are prepared to be tested to the limit at the FNB Stadium, “I do believe that Pirates will be looking to hold on to their title at all costs because they are the defending MTN8 champions.

Having said that we will be ready for them and are willing to match them on the field, we know they have quality players and a quality strike force with an experienced player like Benni McCarthy leading the line for them it will be exciting for us to have to face them.”

Pirates enjoyed a successful season in 2010 - 2011 but they were tested during their matches against the Amakhosi which included a win for Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout Cup final, Sweswe feels that they can use those successes as a bench mark for the final.

“It might be in the past but we have since I have been at Chiefs done well against them. We lost just one game out of five to them last season, and we can use those performances and results to build on, there are also some lessons we can learn from the games we did not win and hopefully we can use them for good measure on Saturday.”

With Chiefs hoping to be at full strength for the final Sweswe is also pleased that his club mate and Zimbabwe international teammate Willard Katsande got some valuable time out for the Zimbabwe national team, when they defeated Cape Verde in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this past weekend.

“I am happy for Willard, he did well against the Cape Verde and the game time was really valuable for him, he is a really good player who is willing to work hard. It was good for him and for his confidence as he also got a goal, Tinashe Nengomasha also featured and it’s an added advantage for us because he played in a competitive game ahead of the final.”
