“We left already on Thursday,” says Thulani Mthembu from the Kaizer Chiefs Tongaat Branch in KwaZulu-Natal. “We didn’t want to miss coming to the Village today to prepare for the Derby on Saturday.”
Amakhosi fans are arriving in large numbers at the Club’s headquarters in Naturena. “We always come here ahead of a Derby,” continues Mthembu. “To meet up with old friends and to get to know new ones. Of course, the topic of discussion is tomorrow’s Derby.”
Many who visit also buy merchandise, like the Kaizer Chiefs home and away jersey, the special Kaizer Motaung 70th anniversary t-shirt, track suits, bags and numerous other things.
Mthembu is convinced that the Amakhosi will win in tomorrow’s away match against Orlando Pirates: “We are in a good form. No one can stop the Chiefs Gautrain.”
Skhumbuzo Khuzwayo also comes from the Tongaat Branch. “My brother is doing fantastic in goal,” he says about Amakhosi goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo. “Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane is also doing well and, let’s not forget Bernard Parker – what a brilliant player.”
Then, Mthembu interrupts his colleague, stressing: “Kingston Nkhatha has also been excellent. Some people only look at the number of goals a striker scores, but Kingston has made superb off-the-ball runs. He’s strong! I love him!”
Because of the upcoming Derby the KC Retail store will today (Friday) be open from 8:30am until 8pm and on Saturday from 8am until 12am.
