Date: Sunday, 25 April 2010

FC Cape Town 2 (Lakay 19, Eboule Bille 65)

Kaizer Chiefs 0

Kaizer Chiefs season for 2009/2010 was brought to an uproot end when two goals in each half from Samuel Lakay (20 min) and Samuel Eboulle Bille (65 min) knocked the Glamour Boys out of the Nedbank Cup in front of a packed Botshabelo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Chiefs who started the game with three strikers, Nkosinathi Nhleko, Kaizer Motaung Jr making his first appearance for the Club in 2010 and Jose Torrealba.

It was FC Cape Town though who opened scoring at the 20th minute with Lyle Lakay beating Arthur Bartman with a low shot following good work from his teammate, Mukedi Mulamba.

Mthokozisi Yende currently enjoying good form forced a save out of goalkeeper, Thembalethu Moses as in the 43rd minute as the boys from Phefeni searched for an equaliser.

At half time, the Serbian Vladimir Vermezovic introduced Mandla Masango and Abia Nale in a place of Kaizer Motaung Jr and Nkosinathi Nhleko respectively. The Amakhosi unbeaten in 2010 started playing their normal game with both substitutes asking lots of questions on both wings.

Chiefs put the opposition under lot of pressure with Jose Torrealba who got a rare start watching his strike going just over the bar.

FC Cape Town though pulled a sucker punch in the 65th minute when midfielder, Samuel Eboule Bille headed home a corner from Sibusiso Ntuli making it 2-0 for the first division outfit.

The recent crowned Telkom Knockout did not lie down though with Mandla Masango creating lot of problems of the opposition. It was the Mpumalanga born, Masango who forced goalkeeper, Thembalethu Moses to make a brilliant save with FC Cape Town seemingly run out of ideas.

Thembalethu Moses was called to action once more in the closing stages of the game as he denied Jose Torrealba who was one of the shining lights in what was a bleak afternoon for the Amakhosi.

FC Cape Town though who were very organised at the back shattered Kaizer Chiefs dream who were not only hoping to go all the way to the final but to lift the Nedbank Cup for the first time since the trophy was introduced three seasons ago.

The defeat also saw the Glamour Boys bouncing out of the competition for the third time in three successive years in the second round.

Vladimir Vermezovic should be commended though for the work he has done this season and there is no doubt that Amakhosi will be a force to be reckon with next season. His bravely in introducing youngsters like Mandla Masango, Punch Masenamela, Knowledge Musona etc, should send a strong warning to the PSL sides next season.
