Chiefs Village was visited by a delegation from Nike and the Berlin Braves, who are making a documentary called Bridge The Gap combining speed in sport with culture. They will be filming the Nike Soweto Marathon on Sunday.
The Amakhosi, in collaboration with Nike, will man a watering point on the 24km mark at the marathon in Diepkloof.
The film crew visited Kaizer Chiefs’ headquarters to shoot the players while training. “Because of our fascination for Kaizer Chiefs,” explains film director Stephan Wever why the Village was selected to film, “the biggest soccer band in South Africa. The Amakhosi are also from Soweto, where the marathon will be run on Sunday.”
The other members of the delegation were film director Lebogang Rasethaba, Energy Marketing Manager Nike Africa, Mmaphuthi Morule and Galebowe Mahlatsi, the Co-Captain of Thesis Run Cru Captain and Co-owner of Thesis Concept Store (Soweto).
“It will be a sports documentary,” adds Morule. “Running is about people from different age backgrounds and cultures mixing. That’s also what the documentary will be about. And, of course, filming a marathon in Soweto can’t be without Soweto’s biggest club. We love the team!”
The Nike Soweto Marathon will start from Nasrec at 6am on Sunday morning, 2 November. Because of its popularity it’s also often called the People’s Marathon. Several prominent runners will participate, including the 2012 winner, Kenya’s Shadrack Kemboi.
Come and meet us at our Kaizer Chiefs/Nike watering point in Zone 6 on Immink Drive. See you there, wear your colours and continue to Be #Inspired.
