Finding a solution to score goals - Komphela

“We are going for a win on Sunday,” says a confident Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela ahead of the team’s trip to the Free State. “We are traveling with one aim in mind, and that's a win.”

Amakhosi travel to Bloemfontein to face Bloemfontein Celtic in the first leg of the MTN8 Cup semifinal on Sunday.

“Bongani Ndulula and Siphelele Mthembu make welcome returns from injury,” Komphela confirms the duo’s return to bolster the strike force, before adding, “We have to find a solution in the goal scoring department.”

Chiefs played to a goalless draw in their first Absa Premiership match of the season against Chippa United, which had to play the entire second half with only 10-men due to one of their players being red-carded in the first half.

Amakhosi paved their way through to the semis of the MTN8 thanks to a 5-3 win over Maritzburg United after extra time, while Celtic beat Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties to reach the semifinals.

Lucky Baloyi is also back from injury and available for selection. Morgan Gould and Daniel Cardoso, however, are still making their way back to full fitness.

“Sula Matovu has received his work permit and will travel with the squad,” adds Komphela. The recently signed Ugandan can play on both wings.

The Chiefs coach will travel with his charges at the backdrop of a family bereavement, following the passing away of his older sister Agnes Makalema Komphela (R.I.P).

She will be laid to rest in Parys today (Saturday).

“On behalf of the Kaizer Chiefs Board of Directors and Kaizer Chiefs in its entirety, I would like to convey our sincere condolences to you, your family and friends,” said Chairman Kaizer Motaung about the passing away of the coach’s sister.

“May her soul rest in peace.”

Sunday’s first leg of the MTN8 semifinal between Chiefs and Celtic will be played at Bloemfontein’s Free State Stadium (kick-off is at 15:00).
