“It’s an important match,” coach Ernst Middendorp comments on Saturday’s last league fixture of the season against Chippa United. “Of course, all games are important, but this one is key to qualify for next season’s Top 8 competition.”
The Kaizer Chiefs squad flew to Port Elizabeth on Friday to face the Chilli Boys at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 11 May. Kick-off is at 15:00.
“I’m sure everybody is looking ahead to the Nedbank Cup final,” the German coach points out, “but not us. For us, it’s all about the clash against Chippa. That’s what we focus on at present.”
Amakhosi are in seventh position on the Absa Premiership log, while the Chilli Boys are down in 13th position and are in a relegation battle.
“To finish in the top 8 is important,” continues Middendorp. “This means that we will participate in the MTN8, which will give us another shot at winning a cup.
“Chippa, however, will throw everything at us, knowing that they have their top-flight status at stake. Our plan is to win the game.”
