"It is difficult to win if your mind is focussed on the past result," warns Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter ahead of Bafana Bafana’s clash against Senegal tonight (kick-off is at 21:00, South African time).
Tough as teak Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho will make a welcome return to the South African starting line-up against the Lions of Teranga. The two sides lock horns in their second Group C match.
“The next game is always the most important," explains Baxter. "It is difficult to win if your mind is locked in the past."
Mathoho missed Bafana’s opening match due to suspension. South Africa lost 3-1 to Algeria.
Amakhosi midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane returns to the team after also having to sit the Algerian match due to suspension. The midfielder, however, will start on the bench.
Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo, midfielder Mandla Masango and striker Bernard Parker are also on the substitution list for tonight’s clash.
Senegal and Bafana have met once in the Africa Cup of Nations, drawing 1-1 during the Group stage in Ghana seven years ago.
South Africa goes into tonight's clash rooted at the bottom of their so called 'Group of Death'. Senegal played to a one-all draw against Ghana in their opener.
"You have to perform to win the game," concludes Baxter.
