Wuest who is of Swiss parentage was born in Cape Town, has had somewhat of a nomadic career as he spent the last year plying his trade in Cyprus, for first division team Apep Pitsilias.

Prior to moving to Cyprus Ryan began his career with Cape Town Spurs and was one of the players sold off to Mother City when Spurs combined with Seven Stars to form Ajax Cape Town at the start of the 1998-1999 season.

He then moved to Manning Rangers and after an unsuccessful trial in Switzerland, Wuest joined Santos and helped them reach the quarterfinals of the CAF Cup in 2004. Ryan spent the last year in Cyprus and has returned to South Africa where is hopeful of earning a contract with Chiefs.

Ernst Middendorp has brought in Wuest as he seeks cover for Rowen Fernandez after Chiefs other goalkeeper Emile Baron, has been besought with a string of injuries throughout the season which has limited the amount of game time he has seen this past season.

“It is clear that we have had problems regarding injuries with both Emile and Rowen this past season and we need a third goalkeeper who is both experienced and possesses the quality we need to help us win games” said Ernst Middendorp. Amakhosi coach also added “we will look at Ryan over the week and see if he fits the profile of the kind of back up goalkeeper that we are looking for”

Wuest for his part is confident that he will be able to secure a permanent move to Chiefs “having played in the PSL before I am aware of the high standard of goalkeepers that Chiefs possess, I think that I can fit the bill” added Wuest.

A decision will be made in a week's time to decide whether he will stay on with Chiefs or not. Ryan will in all likelihood travel with the team to Polokwane where they will play in a four-team tournament this weekend.
