Retired winger and a member of Stuart Baxter’s Technical Team, Arthur Zwane believes that the Club has laid a good foundation and fans should brace themselves for a successful season ahead.

Zwane who played a key role back in 2001 as the Club won five trophies in one season and also a key member as the team won back to back league titles from 2003-2005 remains a source of inspiration to all the players in the team for his discipline and devotion to the badge.

“A lot of work has been done behind the scenes and on the training field in preparation of the incoming season.

“The mentality of the players is positive and the fans should embrace themselves for an exciting season,” said Zwane speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Thursday afternoon.

The Glamour Boys are facing an acid test on Sunday against Mamelodi Sundowns but Zwane believes that the current generation has what it takes to repeat the exploits of Class of 2001 and 2003-2005.

“The potential is there for all to see. The spirit in the team has not been as high in a long time. These days you see the players on field fighting for each other and being prepared to put their bodies on the line for one another.”

“The Coach has also brought a sense of stability in the team and you can see this with the structure and movements of players on the pitch. There is communication at the back. Our transition play has improved tremendously.”

“During the Gauteng Challenge and Carling Black Label Cup bar that one mistake deep in the injury time the team showed what they can achieve this season under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter.”

Zwane added that Chiefs is still one of the biggest sporting brands in the continent and they will show this on the pitch this season; “It is all systems go. The founders of the Club created a winning mentality, a culture of winning trophies and this has to continue.”

The senior players drummed this to us when we arrived at the Club and it is still the same today and the players understand the responsibility that comes with donning the gold and black,”
