Fransman who missed most of the 2005 – 2006 due to a groin injury and the operation that followed, left Chiefs at the end of last term and joined Swallows, speaking to kaizerchiefs.com Fransman said that he and his new team mates were not reading anything into Chiefs current form.
The former Chiefs player who met up with a group of Chiefs player’s who were spending some of their rare off time on Durban’s north beach on Friday after their morning training session, said that he is aware that The Amakhosi will come out guns blazing on Sunday afternoon.
Fransman said “when a team has not had a run of good result it is possibly the worst time to face them, especially in a cup game because you can read nothing into their current form”.
The lanky defender continued further by adding “I spent three seasons at Chiefs and I know how motivated the guys get prior to an important cup game, one thing I can definitely say is that Chiefs players have one thing in their favour that is they possess a lot of Big Match Temperament”.
Chiefs midfielder Thabo Mooki who met up with Fransman on the Durban beach on Friday shared similar comments about Chiefs Soweto neighbours who themselves have not had the desired start to the season, saying “Swallows have always made our games against them interesting affairs and even though they lost in midweek, I do feel that they are still playing some good football.
They were unfortunate to lose to Sundowns on Wednesday as they scored an own goal, the likes of Mame Niang, Bevan Fransman and their captain Goodman Mazibuko are players that we are expecting to be giving us a lot of headaches on Sunday”.
Mooki who made his debut for Chiefs in 1994 has played against Swallows in Cup games on four occasions since the inception of the PSL in 1996 and is aiming for victory number five against the Dube birds on Sunday.
“It is a good record to hold knowing that I have never been on the losing end to Moroka Swallows in a Cup game for ten years, and I would like to make it victory number five on Sunday and keep up the record of a victory every other year against them in a cup game”.
With both teams aware of the quality in the opposition ranks pundits are expecting Sunday’s Supa8 Semi Final clash between the two Soweto Giants in Durban to be as explosive and entertaining as their previous SAA Supa8 encounter was in 2004.
On that occasion Chiefs won the game by a solitary goal and Ernst Middendorp is focusing his attention on a comfortable victory against Swallows on Sunday.
A win which he is hoping will have a roll over effect and hand Chiefs their first league victory of the 2006 – 2007 season, when The Amakhosi return to Durban in a weeks time to take on Golden Arrows in a league game to be played at the Chatsworth Stadium.
