Frosler, Zulu and Parker back in the XI

The new year has barely started, but Kaizer Chiefs are already playing their first Absa Premiership fixture this evening. The opponent is SuperSport United.

Amakhosi’s last game before the festive season was against Maritzburg United. Lebogang Manyama opened the score, before the home side netted the equaliser ten minutes before the half-time break. The encounter finished 1-1.

Coach Ernst Middendorp had to make a change for this afternoon’s fixture as opposed to the Maritzburg United match. Khama Billiat aggravated his hamstring injury during the last encounter. The Zimbabwean’s injury hasn’t healed sufficiently, and as a result, he won’t be able to take part in the SuperSport United game.

Billiat will be replaced by Bernard Parker, who will also be the captain today.

Reeve Frosler, meanwhile, returns to the starting XI, while Philani Zulu will come in for Willard Katsande.

Upfront will be Samir Nurković and Leonardo Castro. The duo has already scored 12 league goals, with the Serbian presently on eight and the Colombian on four goals.

They are backed up by Manyama, who has so far netted four goals during Absa Premiership matches this season.

The two central defenders against Maritzburg will continue to be Erick Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso, while Frosler (right) and Yagan Sasman (left) will cover the wing-back positions.

The referee will be Luxolo Badi, while Athenkosi Ndongeni and Kamohelo Ramutsindela will act as his assistants. Cedric Muvhali will serve as fourth official.

Chiefs will face SuperSport at Nelspruit’s Mbombela Stadium. Kick-off will be at 18:00.
