The advertisement highlights only two clubs - Kaizer Chiefs and
Orlando Pirates - while refering to other participants as
"others" .
The campaign has been criticised for showing a lack of respect
towards the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and their endeavours to
highlight the lesser known clubs.
SuperSport United, one of the 16 clubs that will contest
the R2 million cash prize, have expressed their huge disappointment.
Outspoken club PRO David Skosana, who represented United at a
media briefing at the PSL's offices, voiced his club's displeasure.
"Whoever came up with that advert is still stuck in the old
mentality that local football is only about Chiefs and Pirates.
People must catch a wake-up.
"It is clear that the advert was done by a biased agency. We are
the SAA Supa 8 champions, who beat Chiefs but here we are today
being referred to as 'others'," said a livid Skosana.
"I know that sponsors want bums on seats at stadiums and the two
clubs boast massive support but the campaign must not be done at
our expense.
"I want to warn that agency to watch out for the 'others'."
SuperSport will host Bush Bucks at Loftus on Sunday while Chiefs
return to Absa Stadium in Durban on Sunday to face Lamontville
Golden Arrows.
Chiefs PRO Putco Mafani has no doubt that the quality players
they have, partnered by their well-schooled technical staff, will
deliver the most desired result.
At Bidvest in Johannesburg on Wednesday night, Wits University
will show no sympathy to troubled Manning Rangers.
In fact the Students have planned to emulate Mamelodi Sundowns,
who humiliated Rangers 5-1 in a league game over the weekend.
If will be sweet music to the ears of the five orphanages that
will receive R10 000 for every goal scored in Coke matches if Wits
bang in more than five goals.
Sponsors have already donated R100 000 to kick-start the
HIV/Aids programme.
Moroka Swallows will hope to fly past Bloemfontein Celtic at
Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off time for all the weekend matches is 3.15pm while the
encounter between Wits and Bucks will start at 7:30pm.
Tickets are available at Computicket and are sold at R20 for adults
while juveniles will pay only R10.
