“It is these kind of games where you’re required to focus,” says Ernst Middendorp, ahead of of his team’s match in PE. “The games that come in between the hyped matches are more critical and demand maximum attention.”
Kaizer Chiefs landed at the Port Elizabeth International Airport on Tuesday afternoon on a mission to contest against Chippa United for the three Absa Premiership points.
“I saw Chippa United on Sunday playing in the cup game,” adds Middendorp. “They were totally different from what I have seen in their previous matches. They gave Mamelodi Sundowns a good run. So, we have to be ready for them.”
Chiefs are enjoying a good run in all competitions, with six matches won in a row. “I don’t look at that,” Middendorp refuses to be drawn into the record books, “my focus is on the now and the preparation for the match against Chippa.
“The Soweto Derby coming up on the weekend is a big match of course, but we will only deal with that after the Chippa game,” continues Middendorp. “This is when you have to work on the mindset of the team. We must be responsible and not lose focus.”
After missing last weekend’s Derby match in Durban, Middendorp confirms that Kearyn Baccus and Reeve Frosler are not in the traveling squad. “As for the rest of the players it is just a matter of managing them as the games are coming thick and fast.”
Kick-off tonight is at 19:30 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
