Kaizer Chiefs defender, Siboniso Gaxa jetted off to Brazil on Wednesday to join up with Bafana Bafana as a replacement for injured Anele Ngconga for the international friendly against Brazil on Friday, 07 September 2012.
The KwaZulu Natal born rightback speaking to kaizerchiefs.com from O. R. Tambo International Airport said that he is delighted with the call up.
“I received a call from SAFA on Tuesday that I should join up with the national team in Brazil. I am delighted to be joining up with the squad for a very important match against Brazil and next week against Mozambique.
Gaxa was left out of the team when Gordon Igesund announced the team for the two international friendlies; “You need to be always ready to do duty for your country. I am ready and will do my best as always if I get a chance,” concluded Gaxa.
‘Pa’ has been one of the inform right backs in the country giving superb performances against Mamelodi Sundowns late last month and he was also solid against Free State Stars last weekend.
Affectionately known as ‘Nesta’ in football circles Gaxa has earned 50 caps for Bafana Bafana since making his international debut in 2005 and had an opportunity to play against the five world champions, Brazil back in 2009 during the FIFAFifa Confederations Cup.
Gaxa’s call up makes it six the total number of Chiefs players in the Bafana Bafana trip to Brazil, with the others being Itumeleng Khune, Eric Mathoho, Bernard Parker, Reneilwe Letsholanyane and Siphiwe Tshabalala.
