Cape Town City                   (1) 1 (Rusike 25’)

Kaizer Chiefs                       (1) 4 (Ngezana 12’, Billiat 50’, 79’, Zulu 90’)

Kaizer Chiefs beat Cape Town City 4-1 in an Absa Premiership game at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Siyabonga Ngezana scored Amakhosi’s first goal, while Khama Billiat added a brace in the second half. The fourth goal was scored by Philani Zulu. It was a well-deserved win of the Glamour Boys.

Lebogang Manyama made his debut for the Glamour Boys with the midfielder nearly scoring his first goal four minutes into the game. Leonardo Castro laid the ball back to Manyama, whose shot from inside the box just lacked a bit of pace to really surprise goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh.

Chiefs were clearly the better side and this resulted into the opening goal in the 12th minute. Manyama’s free-kick was headed back from the backline by Willard Katsande towards Ngezana, who easily finished from close range.

It was the defender’s second goal since making his Amakhosi debut against Mamelodi Sundowns on 17 September 2017, almost exactly a year ago. Ngezana scored his first goal in that encounter.

The home side equalised in the 25th minute when Matthew Rusike was left alone and his header beat Itumeleng Khune at the near post. The goal certainly came against the run of play.

Castro had to be replaced due to an ankle injury by Bernard Parker in the 35th minute. The Colombian sustained the injury earlier in the match, but tried to continue for a while.

Willard Katsande was, as usual, working his socks off in midfield, while Ramahlwe Mphahlele was solid at right-back. Khama Billiat had a few excellent moments and was again important when in attack, while Manyama had a fine debut.

The teams went into the break with the score being 1-1.

The second half was, like the first, lively with both teams intending to attack in numbers when they got the opportunity to do so.

Chiefs took the lead in the 50th minute. Mphahlele made one of his telling runs forward, passed the ball to Parker, who crossed towards Billiat whose header found the back of the net, 2-1. It was already the Zimbabwean’s fourth goal in the Gold and Black.

There was an excellent crowd of close to 32 000 spectators at the Cape Town Stadium, creating a great vibe.

Billiat nearly netted a second after a brilliant pass deep from Dumsani Zuma, but the Zimbabwean failed to hit the target.

City’s Taariq Fielies was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 68th minute, which meant that the Capetonians had to play the last 25 minutes with ten men.

Debutant Manyama was replaced by Philani Zulu in the 76th minute after having run slightly out of steam. The new recruit delivered a good performance.

Just a few minutes later, Billiat netted his second, helping the score to 3-1. But Chiefs were not finished as yet, because substitute Zulu scored his first goal in the Gold and Black, 4-1.

It was a good win for Amakhosi, who fully deserved to take the three points.

Key moment in the match:

That was probably the moment that Leonardo Castro injured his ankle after an aerial battle inside ten minutes of play. The Colombian striker decided to continue at first, but eventually had to leave the pitch in the 34th minute. The lanky striker had been in excellent form in recent weeks and his absence up-front was missed after his replacement. However, it was Bernard Parker, who came on for Castro, who delivered the assist for Amakhosi’s second and crucial goal.

Most Valuable Player (MVP):

Kaizer Chiefs had a few players doing well, including Willard Katsande, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Daniel Cardoso and debutant Lebogang Manyama. However, it was Khama Billiat who was selected as the Man of the Match after a brilliant performance.
