Goalless draw for Chiefs and Baroka

Kaizer Chiefs and Baroka FC played to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership match at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Tsepo Masilela, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Edward Manqele all started against Baroka compared to last Saturday’s goalless draw against Orlando Pirates.

There was again a superb atmosphere at the stadium.

The first half was a tight affair. Baroka tried to pressurise the Chiefs defence early when in possession of the ball.

Amakhosi, on the other hand, tried to push forward whenever having the opportunity to do so.

However, despite the effort of both sides, there weren’t many goal scoring opportunities.

The best chance arrived in the 37th minute for Manqele, but his shot was well saved by the Baroka goalkeeper.

The second half was more or less a repeat of the first. Chiefs tried to find the opening goal, but it just didn’t happen.

However, there was a great opportunity for substitute Michelle Katsvairo, barely a minute after he had come on in the 66th minute. Tshabalala took a corner, which got to the Zimbabwean’s head. But he failed to hit the target.

To be fair, Baroka never gave up, even though it was remarkable to see how many of their players struggled with cramp during the match.

In the end, a draw was probably a fair result.

Thanks to the draw the Glamour Boys are now in second position on the Absa Premiership log with 15 points from 8 matches.

Amakhosi next host Free State Stars at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, 6 November 2016 (kick-off is at 15:00).
