Amakhosi midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha has told kaizerchiefs.com that training hard and making the most of their friendly matches in the pre-season will help Chiefs give Chiefs an extra competitive edge when the regular season gets underway.

Citing Chiefs back to back title-winning campaigns in 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 Tinashe said, “It is vital that we do well. Especially at this time when we play against teams like Tottenham and Orlando Pirates.

"You need to use this time so that the coaching department can see where we need to improve, physically, tactically and technically. We saw that before the 2003/2004 season we played in a lot of competitive friendly matches and when the season began we were on a good level to compete with the rest of the teams.”

Tinashe, who is currently competing in his ninth Vodacom Challenge tournament, holds the view that a lot of good will come out of Chiefs win over Tottenham Spur this past Saturday.

“Spurs are a fantastic team with some of the best players in the world. We know that the game we played against them was a friendly match and we understand that the victory was in an exhibition game.

"It is important though. When you get the opportunity to play against teams like Spurs you make the most of it and are as competitive possible. Also I played twice before against them so it was nice to finally put one over them, hopefully we can win against Pirates and play Spurs again on Saturday.”

After his first ninety minutes of the pre-season Tinashe is not feeling any of the effects of a strenuous pre-season training camp and insists that Chiefs are on the right track in their preparations for the new campaign.

“Our motto this coming season is ‘Rise Khosi Rise’ and we will do our best to rise up to the challenge. We have been working hard in the pre-season camp and I did not expect us to play with the intensity that we did in that first game.

"It shows that the coaching department did a great job and we have to continue developing and building so that we can achieve our goals as individuals and as a collective. We have another important game on Thursday and we will again use it to help aid this process.”
