Good result for the next match – Komphela

“We planned to win this match,” coach Steve Komphela reflects after Kaizer Chiefs’ triumph over Volcan Club de Moroni. “That’s what we got, a good result away from home.” Amakhosi beat the Comorian side 4-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

“Any game away from home is difficult,” Komphela adds. “They didn’t pose much danger, but we had to adapt under the different conditions from what we are used to. I am happy with the team’s performance.”

The goals came courtesy of Bernard Parker in the tenth minute. Erick Mathoho scored a brace, with both goals coming from corner kicks. The first one in the 40th min was headed in, while ‘Tower’ scrambled a second past goalkeeper Ousseine in the 55th min. Sula Matovu completed the demolishing job in the 89th min with a fine tap in from the hard working Camaldine Abraw.

“We will take this result to the next game,” stated Komphela, while looking ahead to their next fixtures, back to back home matches against SuperSport United in Cape Town and Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium. “We just want to continue our winning form. We took courage from the win against Maritzburg United, which led to beating Golden Arrows and, accordingly, we got one over Bidvest Wits. And we did the same here.”

Amakhosi are on a four back to back wins, three for the league and one for the Champions League.

“We are not looking at what happened in Moroni,” Komphela looks ahead to Saturday’s game in the Cape of Love & Peace against SuperSport United. “Yes, we will refer to the victory, but our focus is always on the next assignment. However, the result gives us a good cushion going into the home fixture.”
