Bafana Bafana Coach, Gordon Igesund has announced up to eight players from Kaizer Chiefs for the national team ahead of the game against Malawi on December, 22 and a camp five days later.
The players called up are Tsepo Masilela, Itumeleng Khune, Siboniso Gaxa, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Bernard Parker, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Mulomowandawo Mathoho.
Reacting to the call ups a concerned Baxter told kaizerchiefs.com “I am concerned about the game on the 22nd of December against Malawi and the camp again on the 27th of December taking into consideration what happened previously with the games against Poland and Kenya."
“Doc (Doctor Khumalo) was also on record talking about the loading of the players and we had problems against Bidvest Wits with players picking up injuries. We received a letter from SAFA that they are taking no responsibility for injured players and what this means is that it is our responsibility to protect the health of the players and interests of the Club."
“We have been engaging SAFA since the trip to Poland and Kenya on the issue around the loading of players and we might have the same challenge after the tournament. We also have a situation where we have a game against Mamelodi Sundowns 48 hours after the Africa Cup of Nations and with the number of players that will be in the national team it might be difficult for us."
“I will have to speak to the Football Manager (Bobby Motaung) including the Chairman (Kaizer Motaung) and see how we move forward on this matter. I will also be in touch with national team coach, Gordon Igesund."
“Kaizer Chiefs remain behind SAFA but Kaizer Chiefs have to take 100% responsibility for the welfare of our players,” added Baxter.
