Teenage Hadebe has asked all Kaizer Chiefs supporters to come in numbers to FNB Stadium on Saturday night to be that 12th man to help the team beat Zambia’s Zesco United and reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“It promises to be a tough match,” forecasts the Zimbabwean, “and we need all the support we can get.”

Amakhosi lost the first leg 3-1 on the road in Ndola, Zambia, on Sunday, 13 January.

“It’s always difficult to play away,” comments Hadebe. “What made it worse was when the referee disallowed Khama Billiat’s second goal for offside. Our collective hearts dropped, because we knew our task would be more difficult.”

Hadebe started the match in Zambia as the left-sided centre-back, moving at the start of the second half to the left-back position. “I am left-footed,” he reacts. “I know both positions well and can play at either comfortably. It all depends on the coach and the situation.”

Chiefs delivered a spirited performance at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola and was certainly a bit unlucky not get that second goal. Still, scoring an away goal was good and plays to our advantage.”

Hadebe feels positive about getting the result needed on Saturday. “I strongly believe that we are going to score more than two goals,” says the lanky defender full of confidence. “Now, it’s our time to shine and Africa is calling our name.”

A 2-0 win would actually be enough to reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup and it would of course be great if the Glamour Boys go through, as they want to conquer the continent.

“It’s very important to get to the group stage,” Hadebe points out, “because playing in Africa, is what every player dreamt about from a young age. It’s a great stage to be.

“We, as Kaizer Chiefs, are a big club and we want to compete with the best on the African continent. I feel confident that we will progress.”

The second leg between Chiefs and Zesco will take place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 19 January (kick-off is at 20:00). Tickets for the second leg are already available at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R40.

We urge all supporters to get behind the team and come to the stadium. Let’s show who we are!
