Bra Sam was at his usual self as he arrived at the Village wearing the Kaizer Chiefs 40th anniversary jersey.
“This is a great day for me…being a football Friday I also had to wear our 40th anniversary jersey. I am proud to have seen the Club evolving since the early 70s,” he told kaizerchiefs.com.
The Management, Staff and members of the Technical Team sang and wished Bra Sam a very Happy Birthday and enjoyed his birthday cake.
The Executive Chairman paid a glowing tribute to Bra Sam who is credited for developing the likes of Doctor Khumalo, Ntsie Maphike, Gardner Seale and many others who came from the Kaizer Chiefs Development.
“I want to thank you for the significant contribution you have made to the Club since the 70s…people do not know that Sam looked after some of the best players we produced in the Club.
I remember when we used to train at Rockville; he used to transport players using his bakery van to training. It is because of people like him that we are where we are today. I want to thank you and wish you many more years to come,” said Captain Chincha.
76-year-old, Thami Myaluza who will be calling it a day at the end of the season jokingly reminded everyone that for those who want to turn 70 one day they should look to him and Uncle Sam.
“Both of us, we do not drink or smoke,” he said with a smile.
“Uncle Sam” thanked the Club for the gesture; “Thank you for organizing this…my wish is for you to take the Club to the next level.
It would also be nice to see us winning the last two trophies this season as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations,” added Uncle Sam who told the audience that he was ‘feeling 40’.
