“For the boys there’s lots of excitement,” said Kaizer Chiefs Reserves’ coach Arthur Zwane. “From the beginning the boys vowed to be in the final.”
A visibly excited Zwane praised his team for reaching the finals of the Multichoice Diski Shield where they will face-off against Mamelodi Sundowns’ reserve team. The match is scheduled to take place at Tembisa’s Makhulong Stadium on Saturday, 5 May. Kick-off is at 15:00.
“We have spoken to the boys about the importance of winning this trophy,” said Zwane. “We do not have any doubt about winning the match on Saturday. We have respect for Sundowns. They are one of the best structured development sides in the Reserves league. We are equal to the task though, we are going to use the same approach that we have employed in the games we have played so far.”
This is at the back of a great passage through the round-robin phase and the semi-final matches. Chiefs Reserves claimed the scalps of the Reserve sides of Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates and in the semi-finals sent Bloemfontein Celtic Reserve packing to reach the final.
“We have allowed the players to express themselves,” added Zwane. “I must commend the players for they have responded positively in all the games, mentally and otherwise. Yusuf Bunting was instrumental in terms of leading the goal scoring role. In fact all the players came through. Itumeleng Shopane, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Brylon Pertersen, Given Thibedi and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, were all marvellous.”
“The chemistry in the team is very strong and we are continuing to build them for the future,” concluded Zwane. “Tristan Moses and Njabulo Blom, the list goes on. We have a group of players that will be ready to take up first team responsibilities in the future.”
The much anticipated final will be preceded by the battle for the 3rd place between Golden Arrows Reserves and Bloemfontein Celtic Reserves at 12:00. Tickets for entry are free and to be collected at Makhulong Stadium on Thursday/Friday from 13:00.
