SAFA Annual General Congress’ members surprised the Chairman Kaizer Motaung with an early 70th birthday cake last Saturday (11 October).

The Chairman turns 70 on Thursday, 16 October 2014. Remarkably, the honour was made in the presence of former statesmen who attended the congress, including FW de Klerk, Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe.

President Jacob Zuma was represented by Fikile Mbalula, the minister of Sport and Recreation.

Motaung was stunned and humbled by the gesture, which he described as a ”bolt from the blue”.

In a little ‘thank you’ speech, the Kaizer Chiefs Chairman said that the current SAFA leadership was truly leading from the front and encouraged the soccer family to work together for the betterment of the sport in the country.
