George Lebese has expressed his happiness on returning to action after the festive break. Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com this morning after the Team was taken through their paces by Coach Stuart Baxter and his Technical Team, Lebese said it was lovely to be back and he enjoyed the festive break with his family in Mamelodi.
“I didn’t go away on holiday as I preferred to spend some time with my family in Mamelodi. I enjoyed myself but now it is time for work, the holiday period is over. We closed the year on a high, with six straight wins and on top of the league table. Even though the league is far from over, to be on top of the table is a confidence booster. Though our confidence is high at the moment, we know very well how it is to be on top, most teams will be throwing everything at us in the second round. A lot is at stake and we have to work hard to maintain our position,” said a confident looking Lebese.
“It is difficult to train without game time but we are pushing ourselves extra-hard at training as we know we are going to be the Team to beat in the second round. Starting with the top of the table clash makes it more interesting for us (Kaizer Chiefs travel to Tshwane on Thursday, 23 January 2014 to take on 2nd placed Mamelodi Sundowns on the league table, 19:30 kickoff at Loftus Verfeld). We are taking each game as it comes but this is a must win for us. They are very close to us at the top, we want to beat them and open the gap,” said Lebese.
“I played my best game against Sundowns last season (12 February 2013) when we played to a 0-all draw at Loftus on our way to lift the 2012/13 Championship. We can’t be ahead of ourselves; we have to continue working hard. We plan to defend our Championship and the Nedbank Cup and have a good run in the CAF Championship,” said Lebese in high spirit.
