There are striking similarities between Ngcobo’s goal and the last goal scored at Soccer City by a Chiefs player before it underwent extensive renovations in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, back then it was Shaun Bartlett who managed to find a goal for Chiefs as they drew a PSL match with arch rivals Orlando Pirates at the old Soccer City on the 9th of December 2006.
But like Ngcobo’s goal against Sundowns Bartlett’s equalizer against Pirates was a headed goal scored astonishingly in second half stoppage time, well to be exact three minutes into second half stoppage time exactly the same time Ngcobo found the winner against Sundowns.
The former Chiefs striker Bartlett like Ngocobo did on Saturday had also entered that famous encounter in 2006 as a second half substitute, he replaced Gerald Sibeko at half time and met a corner from the left to score and cancel out Bendict Vilakazi’s earlier strike.
Bartlett’s goal and Ngcobo’s were both scored in the 93rd minute and were laid up from the left and were scored at the same end of the ground, new stadium same old story for Chiefs.
