High flying Obua ready for SuperSport

Whatever doubts Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral had over David Obua's joining the Ugandan national team, they were quickly laid to rest when Obua bagged a hat trick against Niger in Kampala. Obua’s return to form is good news for The Amakhosi and it opens up Ertugral’s options for Chiefs upcoming league fixture on Sunday against SuperSport United.

Obua buoyed by his performance over the weekend, is looking to repeat what he did for his country, in the Gold and Black of The Amakhosi in Tshwane on Sunday as he aims to help Chiefs rise up the PSL standings with a win against SuperSport.

While SuperSport have down the years proved to be Chiefs nemesis Obua believes that things will be much different when the teams meet up on Sunday, as Chiefs are playing with a spring in their step and have been dominant over the opposition in all of their last three league games this season.

Perfect return

Even Obua himself could not have scripted a better return to action then it turned out to be for him, when he played his first competitive match in over two months and came out of it scoring not one but three goals.

He told kaizerchiefs.com that he could not have asked for anything more and his comeback was the stuff made of dreams adding, “whenever you come back from an injury you are concerned on a whether or not you ready to play again. I was thinking am I rushing this but when I got out on to the field everything just felt right”.

For Obua the fact that he was able to play a full game without feeling the effects of being on the sidelines for such a long period was an added bonus as he added, “some times things just work out for you and thankfully it all feel into place for me last weekend, and the good thing is that with the way things panned out against Niger I feel very confident about Sunday’s game, coming through 90 minutes with out any comebacks from the injury is really good news for me”.

Tough competition

Despite the fact that he hit the right notes on his return to full fitness, Obua still feels that he has a lot to do to convince the coach to start him against SuperSport as there a number of his team mates who is up against for a starting berth against Matsasantsa who are displaying fine form at the moment.

“The guys have played extremely well in the three league games we have played thus far,” explained Obua. He went on to further add, “the coach will need to be really sure that if he puts some one else in the team, the guy coming in will be able to do an equally good or better job. So basically it is up to me give my all in training over the next couple of days and show to the coach that I am ready to play on Saturday”.

Obua has also praised Siphiwe Tshabalala for his performance during the Wits game, and believes that big things can be expected of the Bafana Bafana winger in the months to come.

Obua said of his team mate, “having to fight a guy like Siphiwe for a place in the team is going to be tough, we know that he is a real gutsy and determined player and he showed what a danger he is against Wits even though he played just over half an hour. He was able to create space for himself and tore Wits apart as he sent in some telling crosses from the left”.

Super Sunday

The thought of facing SuperSport United on Sunday is not one that bothers Obua at all as he feels that Chiefs could not be more prepared to face United than they are at the moment, and that United's past dominance over The Amakhosi is just history.

As he mentioned “in the past two seasons we have recorded victories over them in the ABSA Cup and SAA Supa8 tournaments and I do not see any reason why we can not do the same in the PSL. What happened last season or the season before that is in the statistics books, the time has come for us to change all of that on Sunday and rewrite a new chapter in our history against them”.
