Ramahlwe ‘Rama’ Mphahlele was nominated with two others for the Absa Premiership Defender of the Season, Bidvest Wits’ Thulani ‘Tyson’ Hlatshwayo and Sifiso Hlanti. The Wits captain was the winner of this category at Monday’s PSL Awards evening.
“I am not disappointed at all,” Kaizer Chiefs’ right-back reflected. “Tyson deserved to win the award. Ironically, I was his captain when we played for South Africa’s Under-20s side and he now captains me at Bafana Bafana. We have become good friends of the years.”
Rama had a terrific first season at the Glamour Boys, starting in 29 league and three cup games, scoring twice (one league, one cup goal). On top of that, Mphahlele provided four assists.
The right-back was selected as Kaizer Chiefs Players’ Player of the Season for his outstanding performances.
The PSL awards night left a deep impression on the 27-year-old defender. “It was interesting to observe that the players who won the awards were mostly from the season’s winning teams,” Mphahlele said.
“The evening has really give me a renewed motivation going into the new season. I am going to give more and go further than ever before in my quest to win trophies for Kaizer Chiefs.”
