“It was a great feeling to wear the Gold & Black jersey for the first time in an official game,” reflects new signee Ramahlwe Mphahlele on the 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates in last Saturday’s Carling Black Label Champion Cup.

The defender was voted in by the supporters to come on as a substitute early in the second half. The 26-year-old defender replaced Lorenzo Gordinho in the 55th minute.

“There is no better way to make a debut than beating Pirates,” adds ‘Rama’. “It was a humbling experience. I grew up wishing to play for Chiefs and this is a dream come true.”

Rama signed for Amakhosi from Mamelodi Sundowns during the off-season: “It was a nerve wrecking experience, although I felt better after a few touches on the ball. However, work has just begun. We are still in pre-season.”

“I went straight home after the match to rest and spend time with my family,” reacts Mphahlele to the question how he celebrated the Carling Black Label Champions Cup win.

The defender also reveals that his mother, Cylia, called from home, in Ga-Mphahlele, to congratulate him: “My mom called to congratulate me on my debut and the win over the Buccaneers. She was so happy.”
