Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt will be well pleased with the way his team has responded in their last three league outings as the managed to collect the maximum number of points from games against Amazulu, Cape Town City and TTM in the DStv Premiership. He is now hoping they continue that good run when they face Stellenbosch FC in their next league encounter, which is their third away game in their last four clashes.
“We are just looking forward to the next game because the time between games is so short and tight,” says Hunt. “It’s another away game which requires a bit of travelling again.”
Chiefs head to the Western Cape for the second weekend in a row. They faced The Citizens last week in the Mother City and will tackle Stellies this afternoon in Stellenbosch.
Amakhosi were in action again on Tuesday against Tshakhuma FC. Given the tightness of the games, the technical team will once again have to rotate their playing personnel due to suspensions and injuries.
“As we all know, Bernard Parker is suspended, and our captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele will have to undergo a late fitness test, which is a blow because he has just settled in his position,” Hunt divulges. “Obviously one or two other problems from Tuesday’s game, but we will try to get through them by doing the best we can.”
Despite the games coming thick and fast, Hunt feels it is a good thing that Chiefs are in regular action. “I think its good because football players don’t want to train and just sit around,” he adds. “We are not halfway yet; we are almost there though. But overall, there is still a long way to go before the end of the season and players prefer to play. I was a player and I know the feeling - I don’t see any problem with it because these are young boys.”
Hunt is wary of underestimating Stellenbosch and believes that Chiefs will be up against tough opponents this afternoon. “From top to bottom, they are a fantastic football club,” say Hunt. “They have come into the PSL and have managed to do well. Steve Barker has done a tremendous job there.”
If there is a concern for Hunt, it is the weather in Stellenbosch during this time of the year, with the temperatures expected to be in the late 20s at that time on Saturday. “They have moved to a new stadium,” he says, “I played there a long time ago. The question is obviously the heat because we are kicking off at 17:00 in the afternoon. Even at that time of the day, it is like playing at 14:00 in the afternoon elsewhere.”
Chiefs will also be without the injured Lebohang Lesako for the match against Stellenbosch as he picked up an injury in the midweek win over TTM; while Nkosingiphile Ngcobo who also left the field during the midweek game has recovered sufficiently to be available for selection.
Hunt will be hoping that his team can win their fourth game on the trot against Stellenbosch at 17:00 today at the Danie Craven Stadium. It will be shown on SuperSport Channel 202.
