I am much better now - Khune

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune had a severe breathing problem on Saturday night in Abuja, less than 24 hours before South Africa’s 2010 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria.

That was the reason why the 20-year-old was not included in the Bafana squad on matchday, when Nigeria won 2-0.

It was originally believed that Khune's problems had to do with asthma. But as he explains: “It’s not Asthma. That is what many people think, but that is wrong - my problems have nothing to do with asthma. I just use the inhaler to open my chest."

Itumeleng Khune has trained with the Bafana team since Tuesday, ahead of their crucial World Cup/Nations Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea on Saturday and says, “I am much better now and ready to play if I’m selected.”

There have been mixed reports on Rowen Fernandez performance against Nigeria. Most believe that its was his heroics that kept the score to a respectable 2-0 defeat, while the more cynical believe he was at fault for the two goals.

If coach Joel Santana believes the latter opinion then it will open the door for Khune to wear the number one jersey against Equatorial Guinea, earning his third cap for his country.
