“Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are the in-form teams so far this season,” states Amakhosi legend Neil Tovey ahead of the MTN8 Cup Derby at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban (kick-off at 8:15pm).
Tovey was wearing the captaincy armband for years when he played for Kaizer Chiefs in the nineties, winning three Top 8 Cups during his spell at the club.
“The Amakhosi certainly has the edge,” continues the former defender. “They are able to get so many players arriving in the box, especially from midfield. Yeye Letsholonyane is a prime example of this, scoring already six goals this season. Besides that, he supplies excellent passes for his teammates to score from, he defends and wins balls for the team. That’s class! Yeye’s performances are highly impressive at the moment.”
But Tovey also has a warning: “Pirates score a lot of goals from outside the box. However, that can’t always continue and I am sure that the Chiefs players have been made aware of this fact by their coach.”
When asked who Tovey will support on Saturday evening, he reacts without hesitation: “I am supporting Kaizer Chiefs, for sure. There can be no doubt about that. Amakhosi4Life!”
