“I am disappointed with the result,” commented coach Ernst Middendorp after watching in disbelief how Kaizer Chiefs succumbed to an unexpected loss in the 2019 Nedbank Cup final on Saturday. “It is a situation we have to face and rectify as quickly as possible.”
TS Galaxy scored the sole goal from the penalty spot just before the referee’s final whistle, lifting the trophy in front of a sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The match was billed as a David vs Goliath affair and so it turned out to be.
“I apologise to the club and the supporters,” said Middendorp, “congratulations, though, to TS Galaxy.”
“We will have to reflect and see how we are able to move out of this situation quickly. We won’t do anything emotionally. We will look at all the facts and work out the various solutions,” concluded the German coach.
The Nedbank Cup final marked the end the 2018/19 PSL season.
