Having been knocked out in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals by the same Ea Lla Koto side, the ‘revenge’ mission was well and truly completed for Amakhosi as they ran out winners courtesy of goals from Siphiwe Tshabalala, Bernard Parker and Willard Katsande.
However the coach admitted he would have loved to see more goals from his charges that took their foot off the paddle in the second stanza.
“We started well and created openings and in as much as one would say it was a 3-1 [result], it wasn't as easy as the score [suggests],” says Komphela.
“I feel we could have made it even better, score-wise, but there were moments where towards the end of first half you could feel them coming through and we also let ourselves down, especially in the second half where we got too comfortable. Maybe I have to go back and look at [the match] with less emotion, but as is, I felt we could have done better. Yes, we won it, we are happy, but we could have done better."
The head coach lauded new signing Gustavo Páez following an impressive cameo in the second half display. The Venezuelan-born attacker who was the only signing during the January transfer period made his debut in the 59th minute when he came on for Edmore Chirambadare and the coach felt the striker gave a good account of himself. His inspiring show has seen him earn praises from his coach.
“With Páez you can see that he's trying his best. You can see his movements, you can see the hunger and desire and I am happy with what I saw and hope our fans are as well. With time I feel that he will come right." the coach concluded.
