At thirty-one years of age Thabo Mooki still feels that he has five more seasons in him to give the best possible service to the Amakhosi before he eventually calls it a day.

Speaking from Cape Town where he is soaking up the sun as the Mother City experiences some unusually warm winter weather, Thabo is entering his thirteenth season with Chiefs.

Thabo says that he feels like a sixteen year old and cannot wait for the new season to start as Amakhosi have a lot to look forward to in the new campaign.

Mooki has described the addition of striker Shaun Bartlett and the midfield duo of Siyabonga Nkosi and Papi Zothwane as interesting buys and a move in the right direction, which shows that the club is serious about bringing the league title back to Naturena.

Commenting on the addition of Zothwane and Nkosi to the team the veteran Mooki said, “these are two interesting players - both of whom have the potential to become world class players.

They will also bring with them a fresh style to the midfield and we will welcome the cutting edge they will afford us over our opponents”.

Thabo is convinced that if the pair can hit the high notes for Chiefs, then they will be able to transform their good club partnership into great use for Bafana Bafana as they are at the right age to be looked at as South Africa’s match winners in 2010. Mooki said, “I think that myself and some of the senior players at Chiefs like Cyril Nzama and Fabian McCarthy will need to look after these two guys, there will be a lot expected of them.

What we need to do - is to help them play at their best game in and game out and if they do that then the whole country will benefit. First we need to welcome them when pre season training starts at the end of the month and support them all the way. I do believe that Papi and Siyabonga if properly guided can both be important role players for Bafana Bafana when the 2010 World cup comes around”.

What of the arrival of Shaun Bartlett “ Shaun’s credentials speak for itself, he has experience playing abroad at club level as well as international level and that can only be to our benefit. Shaun is a world recognized goal scorer, and I think we were lacking a true goal poacher with his experience and I am confident he will bang in the goals and also help further develop the goal scoring talents of Louis Agyemang and Serge Djiehoua”.

Having reached 350 games for Chiefs during the past season Thabo is within sight of overhauling Doctor Khumalo’s club record for appearances, which stands at 397. If his objective of seeing in another five seasons comes to fruition then Thabo will have been able to set a club record of his own.
