Tell us about where you grew up?

I was born 20 years ago and bred in Embalenhle, Mpumalanga. My father saw my love for soccer at my tender age as I used to play truant at school to go and play soccer, but now I want to complete my Grade 12 which I since stopped following my dream and passion to pursue a soccer career. I am on my way to register for my Grade 12 as I am speaking to you now. Education is important in life, so I have to continue with my studies.

How do you describe Simphiwe Mtsweni?

I am very shy but confident. That’s how I have been growing up. I have a humble background but was taught at an early age to have courage with respect.

Where do you draw your inspiration?

Apart from being a God fearing person, Farouk Khan from the Stars of Africa Academy has helped me a lot. He taught me a lot about soccer. I am also an ambitious person and get motivated always when I get a chance to play. I am eager to learn and with Tsepo Masilela and Coach Baxter around, I am prepared to learn more.

What do you do during your spare time?

I do a lot of resting after training. I spend most of the time reviewing my training and playing performances. When I get a chance I also visit the Stars of Africa Academy to watch their training and give the younger guys some advice. At any given space of time I pay my folks a visit at home in Embalenhle.

Is that all?

I also do extra training after hours when we don’t have a game. I go to the gym to do the extra work most of the time.

What is it that we don’t know about Mtsweni?

I was a 100 and 800m athlete at school. I represented Mpumalanga in the Provincial competitions.

The soft spoken youngster expressed his gratitude towards Kaizer Chiefs for granting him the opportunity to don the gold and black jersey and become a Glamour Boy.
