The Medical Team reported the injuries to Captain Itumeleng Khune and marksman Katlego Mphela.
Khune has developed a stress fracture to one of the ankle bones. He has had slight discomfort which suddenly got worse over the last few days and the ankle swelled up. He was taken for an MRI and CT scan on Tuesday, which showed a small fracture. He will now be put into a 'moon boot' for up to six weeks. He should be able to return to full activity by mid-October, read the Medical Report.
Subsequently, Khune was withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad due to play against Sudan and Nigeria in the Afcon qualifiers.
Mphela had a successful operation last Friday following the foot injury he sustained after scoring in the last minutes of the MTN 8 2nd leg game against Platinum Stars. He is in a 'moon boot' and resting at the moment. Mphela will see the Doctor in two weeks’ time to make a further assessment. He will be sidelined for three months.
